Loneliness, Jesus, and my Mothering Spirit

This week I was honored to have this essay called “Loneliness, Jesus, and My Mothering Spirit” published at a favorite online community called Mothering Spirit.

I’ve been deliberating over this concept of the vocational loneliness of motherhood (or parenting) for the last many months, inspired by conversations shared with a small group of moms that I have the joy of leading in Bible study.

Ironically, or perhaps it was Divine timing, this essay was published on the same day that I participated in a conversation with faith leaders, convened by the Bishop, about working together to prevent gun violence. I was reminded, again, as I looked around the meeting room yesterday, that there’s no way forward except together.

Each of us carries the loneliness of our unique calling within us, but by the grace and love of God, we don’t have to carry it alone.
